Terry Fox Run Update
Terry Fox Run 2017
Our school’s Terry Fox Run was held on Friday, September 29th at 10:30 am. It was a beautiful sunny day for everyone to be out running and raising money for cancer research. Our students did an amazing job this year and raised a total of $568.00. Cut-out paper twoonies are on display around the gym to help students visualize how much money we raised. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a success.

Sports Club
Starting on Monday, September 18th
we began to offer a sports club during the lunch hours for grade 5/6
students. Students who wish to participate will
be able to take part in this club every Monday at lunchtime until
the month of June, 2018. The sports club
will take place in the gym and we will be playing different sports that the
students have played during their Physical Education classes. Participation in extracurricular activities
requires both commitment and modeling of appropriate behaviour. It is an expectation that students remember
to stay at school on the day they play and demonstrate sportsmanship and
positive interactions.

Terry Fox Run 2017
Terry Fox Run 2017
Our school Terry Fox Run will be held on Friday, September
29th at 10:30 am. There will
not be an assembly before hand. Students
at CJFS will be learning about Terry Fox and his legacy in each of their
classrooms. We will also be working on
our running stamina in our Physical Education classes. We are trying to do a
“Twoonie for Terry” this year. If every
student and teacher at CJFS brings in $2 for cancer research our school will
reach our target of $1000. All students
who participate will be entered into a raffle for a Terry Fox T-shirt.

Jump Rope Jumpathon
Jump Rope For Heart Jumpathon
On Friday May 5th from 10:30-11:00 the students
from Colonel J Fred Scott Elementary School are invited to go outside to join
us in our jumpathon. The jumpathon is
our schools final celebration of our fundraising efforts and awareness for the
Heart and Stroke Foundation. Research
has shown that physical health and mental health are intertwined. By having the students outside skipping for a
half an hour they will not only be improving their physical health, but also
their mental health.
“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys
to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual
activity.”

Soccer
In the month of April the students at CJFS have been working on a soccer unit in gym. Students have used their knowledge of spatial awareness and developed the ability to control an
object with their feet rather than hands and make strategic and effective
decisions when in a mini game situation. They have been required to implement
their team work skills and maintained a positive attitude within themselves and
amongst their classmates.
